Our free Respecting ABILITIES Curriculum Kit for grades 1-6 includes everything school counselors and teachers need to deliver The Cromwell Center’s awareness and inclusion activities in their own classrooms (and within social distancing limits when necessary.) It contains the same content as our in-person classroom programs and allows us to serve Maine schools outside of southern and central Maine.
Each kit includes:
- A comprehensive, detailed, scripted lesson plan for each grade
- Supplies and materials needed to carry out the activities
- Video book readings and activities
- Books and posters for each school
- Resources and information for educators
The curriculum helps students to:
- Understand that disabilities are an aspect of human diversity and do not define a person
- Break down stereotypes about differences and similarities
- Explore the power of unkind words, exclusion, and bias
- Identify and role-play solutions to disability-related mistreatment and bullying
- Practice empathy and inclusion
