Building Kinder Communities:

a disabilities awareness & sensitivity program for adults

Supporting the whole family

We offer programs for parents/guardians and school staff in elementary schools in southern and central Maine, usually at no charge. These interactive sessions can be hosted by the PTO/PTA or directly by the school.

What this program offers

The lively 75-minute program helps adults:

  • Have positive conversations with kids about disabilities
  • Model positive attitudes and language for children at home and in the community
  • Help children to be more supportive and respectful.

Additional Information

By supplementing our classroom sessions with this program, we create an “echo” effect with the lessons resounding back and forth between parents, children and schools.

The format of the sessions will be both lively and interactive with guided activities and discussion. You will be provided with take-home activities and resources with your child.

“Great presentation. Should be required for ALL parents!”

“Thank you to The Cromwell Center for this wonderful parent engagement opportunity. Program leaders Heidi and Dede were a perfect pair for this important work. So valued and appreciated.”

Rick Dedek, Principal, Woodside School, Topsham

“Thank you very much! We are often aware that we should be respectful and use the correct language butn not always sure how to do it and how to guide our kids.”
